Dear Friends & Family,
READ 1 KINGS 1:1–53
Much can be learned about a person by those he invites to significant life events. The important people in a person’s life will be on the guest list, and those who are not welcome will be noticeably absent. Such was the case when Adonijah decided to establish himself as king over Israel.
King David was growing old, and the necessity to crown his successor was growing more intense every day. Adonijah tried arranging his own coronation unbeknownst to David. Not only did Adonijah perform this ceremony without David’s knowledge, he purposefully left David and the God-honoring people in David’s life off the guest list.
"He did not invite Nathan the prophet or Benaiah or the special guard or his brother Solomon" (1 Kings 1:10).
Adonijah’s guest list was an indication that he would not have the blessing of his father, David, nor the blessing of God. Adonijah was attempting to make himself the King by human means and not in alignment with God. We need godly friends in our lives to speak to us about God’s plan for our life.
Challenge for Today: Live in such a way that God-honoring people are always involved in your life.
