Dear Friends and Family,

READ 1 KINGS 8:1–66

The temple Solomon built for the Lord was dedicated in a seven-day celebration. The highlight of the event was placing the ark of the covenant in the Holy of Holies. All Israel came for the processional of the ark of the covenant, the symbol of the presence of the Lord, as it was given its rightful place of honor.

When the priests withdrew from the Holy Place, the cloud filled the temple of the Lord. And the priests could not perform their service because of the cloud, for the glory of the Lord filled his temple (1 Kings 8:10–11).

Solomon had honored his father’s directions by building the temple. He had purposed in his heart to set this structure apart for the Lord. And when he properly gave high esteem to the ark of the covenant, God’s glory filled the temple.

Where God is honored, where the Word of God is obeyed, and where hearts have pure motives to set God apart and give Him distinction as the One True God, His glory will abide.

Prayer Suggestion: Father, may my heart today give You the place of honor You deserve.
