Dear Friends,

READ PSALMS 46:1 THROUGH 53:6

God had a plan for young David. He led him from being a shepherd, tending his father’s sheep, to being the king of Israel, a shepherd for God’s people.

David had all he could ever need. But when temptation knocked, he was quick to answer the door. His affair with Bathsheba had disastrous results, including the murder of Uriah, her husband.

Perhaps David said to himself, “No one will ever know what I have done.” Someone did know, however. God knew, and He sent His prophet Nathan to David to proclaim David’s sin.

David didn’t deny his guilt but instead cried out to God.

Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions (Psalm 51:1).

Like David, when believers sincerely ask God for forgiveness, they have assurance He will forgive them. Not only will He forgive, but He also will restore the joy of salvation. God does not hold past sins against anyone after repentance. He offers the opportunity for a fresh start.

Prayer Suggestion: Repent of any sin, and ask God to purify your heart.
