Dear Friends,
READ: MARK 1:1 THROUGH 3:34
She strolled down the hallways, wearing an unnatural hair color, knee-high Converse tennis shoes, and clothes from a thrift store. But she always wore a smile on her face and was polite and happy. She differed from her classmates, but she enjoyed her uniqueness. John the Baptist was also unique.
John wore clothing made of camel’s hair, with a leather belt around his waist, and he ate locusts and wild honey (Mark 1:6).
John looked and sounded nothing like the religious leaders of his day. John wore camel-hair clothing, not a long, flowing robe. His message called for repentance of sins. The religious leaders thought God accepted them just because they descended from Abraham.
Following Christ means being different. The message believers share is this: God loves everyone, but people have sinned and need God’s forgiveness. Christians may look the same, but their attitudes, words, and actions should clash with the crowd. God’s gives His children the courage and power to be different, but in a fresh way that impacts the world for good.
Everyone is unique, we all have things that make us different from everyone else. You may not have unnatural hair color or wear knee high shoes, but you are still you and there is no one else just like you. As a Beleiver you are also unique, you have been given what others do not have, a relationship with Jesus.
Prayer Suggestion: Lord, help me to be different in a way that points others to You.
