Dear Friends,

READ: LUKE 9:1 THROUGH 10:42

People today have varying opinions about who Jesus is, just as they did while He was living on earth. Jesus questioned His disciples about the crowds’ opinions of Him. Then He challenged the disciples with the same question.

“But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” Peter answered, “God’s Messiah” (Luke 9:20).

This question forced the disciples to articulate their faith. Did they truly believe Jesus was the Messiah? The Son of God? Jesus’ question also reinforced the fact that because of the disciples’ relationship with Him, they were separated from “the crowds” who only followed Jesus for what He could do for them.

This question is no less penetrating for modern-day disciples. What Christians believe about Jesus will determine the depth and quality of their relationship with Him. Followers have many opinions and reasons for following, but disciples know His true identity.

Prayer Suggestion: Jesus, give me a deeper revelation of who You are.
